SCOPE OF HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

 

Hospitality management is both a field of work and a field of study. In the work sense, it refers to management of hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and other institutions in the hospitality industry. As a field of study, it refers to the study of the hospitality industry and its management needs. Here, the purpose of study is to equip students with skills and knowledge concerned with hospitality administration.

In simple words, hospitality management can be defined as management of hospitality industry. Therefore, all service industries which provide guest services can be included under the scope of hospitality management.

Following are the major areas of services coming under the scope of hospitality management.

·      Food and accommodation services such as hotels, restaurants, resorts etc.

·      Travel and tourism services such air travels, cruises, rail and road transportation services, tourist places and tourism management.

·      Events (such as celebrations, festivals, sports etc.), meetings and conferences.

·      Entertainments and recreations including parks, play grounds, tourist places etc.
